Everywhere, where damp, sticky or muddy matter is supposed to turn grainy again, dryers are used. What we demand from these machines grows constantly: The drying must be done quickly, handling and maintenance must be simple. And the machine should use as little electricity as possible, naturally.

The technical terms “damp, dull or sticky bulk solids” hardly convey which sophisticated coloring-, food-, and medicine products have to go through this phase of production. Powders, crystal, or fine chemicals are mixed in a damp state, and not until later, during the drying phase, do they take on their free-flowing state. In the paint- and dye industries, metallic powders, pigments, and salts have to dry under constant mixing. Food manufacturers have to get tee mixes, coffee powder, baby food, as well as dry soups and sauces to their ideal consistency. And in the pharmaceutical industry it is important to separate active components from solvents

Infrared data transfer

Until now, automatic distillation systems have predominantly been controlled by an automatic pump stand using differential pressure measurements. The new IKA system works on a different principle. Included in the RV 10 control is an infrared interface for bi-directional data transfer between the heating bath and the drive unit. This means that the heating bath can be moved to a safe position directly by the drive unit if a fault is detected. IKA has also implemented several configuration options for the heating bath itself. There are three different operating modes. Mode A allows the temperature to be set to a safe temperature limit (SafeTemp) during the start-up process. In Mode B, the safe temperature limit set in Mode A is carried over automatically, with the operator able to select the target temperature within the pre-configured range. This setting becomes active the next time the system is switched on. Mode C does offers a secure operating mode that prevents the user from changing any settings. The heating bath is a water-oil heating bath with integral carrying handles. Water mode or oil mode is set automatically according to the temperature range that has been selected.

Procedure principle always the same – Modules are adapted

IKA®’s magic LAB® offers a variety of techniques for mixing and crushing. Several different modules assure that one can work with batch processes as well as inline processes. The magic LAB® offers unchanged work methods from composition development all the way to large-scale production. Work is done based on the rotor-stator-principle of an inline dispersing machine. The product to be processed is fed centrally from the top and, from there, runs through the shearing zone. Depending on the type of tools, one to three mixing tools are used. After the product has run through the many shearing zones, it is radially discharged at the bottom end of the machine.

The IKA® Master Plant MP has set new standards in this area as it is able to master the entire mixing technology repertoire and does not require additional peripheral devices.

The chameleon is a fascinating animal. It inhabits a variety of living spaces and can transform itself as to look invisible to its enemies and more like a plant, a leaf or a piece of wood. This ability to transform ensures the animal’s survival. Versatility is becoming increasingly important in the cosmetics industry and also when it comes to the countless demands put on modern mixing technology. The IKA® Master Plant MP is certainly a “quick-change” artist. It offers a solution for every production demand of the cosmetics industry. Its versatility is the result of a refined design.

Continuous processes have the edge when it comes to highquality, rapid powder incorporation into liquids: mixing, homogenization and dispersing take place in a single pass.

Vessels with stirrers are often used to achieve a homogenous mixture of solids and liquids. Industrial systems comprise a number of vessels, mixers and peripherals. Despite modern stirrer geometry and the possibility of increasing the speed of the mixer tools if required, the same problems always occur with batch systems, preventing a harmonious marriage of “solid and liquid”.

The disposable dispersing system ULTRA-TURRAX® Tube Drive control (UTTD control)

Before researchers and lab assistants are able to analyze samples, they usually have to prepare the material first. Mixing, crushing, dispersing or homogenizing processes tend to be quick. The cleaning of the machine, however, is time consuming and can be dangerous when working with toxic substances. But now, thanks to the new, hermetically sealed, disposable tube system, contact with the sample material is minimized and sample processing time is decreased.

Magic Distillation - IKA launches evaporator video

What would it be like... if you could just disappear from the daily lab routine? As easily and quickly as liquid escapes from the rotary evaporator? This is the fantasy in the new IKA image video.

No words, but plenty of emotion: the joy of the pretty lab technician when she unpacks her new RV 10 Clip. Her frustration with her annoying lab colleague and her yearning for a palm-fringed beach. The evaporator vessel in her hands turns into a magic ball. It magically changes the lab into a holiday location and the pushy jerk turns into a heartthrob. As he allows his IKA white coat to fall away to the relaxing sound of the reggae song especially composed for the video, he reveals himself to be as perfect as the design and technology of the RV 10 Clip. The message: German Technology made by IKA makes magic of the daily lab routine.
