Genentech is constructing a fill and finish facility across a 100 acre site at Shute Road, Oregon, USA. It is aimed to manufacture new drugs in pipeline for Genentech. The site would also be home to a new warehouse and distribution centre.
Investment
The total investment for the project is to be around US$ 250 million. Oregon state government spent around US$ 4.8 million, including US$ 2 million from the Governor’s Strategic Reserve Fund for training the workers as well as making requisite infrastructural improvements.
Project Details
The facility broke ground in December 2006. It would be ready for operation from 2010. The average number of jobs created would be around 300 by 2015. It would be used for filling and packaging commercial biotechnology therapeutics. Bulk frozen products will be shipped in from other Genentech plants which would in turn be filled into sterile vials and syringes after thawing and additions of diluents or buffers are being made.
