17 April 2025
Abu Dhabi has cemented its position as a global hub for biotechnology, medical technology and digital health with the opening of a groundbreaking life sciences complex, the Health and Life Sciences Sustainable Campus (HELM). The project, jointly developed by Abu Dhabi Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and Abu Dhabi Health Authority, aims to drive healthcare innovation, attract international investment and deliver lasting benefits to the global population.
The HELM campus was announced during the Abu Dhabi Global Health Week and is positioned as a research, development, manufacturing and commercialization platform for advanced health and life science solutions. From artificial intelligence diagnostics and pharmaceuticals to gene therapy and precision medicine, the campus will help global companies transform breakthrough science into scalable, accessible, patient-centric solutions.
Abu Dhabi's world-class infrastructure, advanced regulations and strategic location provide unparalleled access to global markets. The country's multicultural talent base, advanced biomanufacturing facilities and commitment to innovation make it an ideal starting point for life science companies to expand their businesses globally.
His Excellency Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Economic Development Authority, said: “HELM Abu Dhabi will provide significant benefits to global and local stakeholders, including access to cutting-edge technologies, world-class infrastructure and an advanced regulatory framework. By creating a globally competitive life sciences hub, we are not only accelerating economic growth and diversification, but also ensuring that Abu Dhabi remains at the forefront of developing breakthrough healthcare solutions for the benefit of all humanity.”
The park is designed to meet the growing global demand for advanced healthcare and address some of the world’s most pressing health challenges, including chronic and non-communicable diseases (which account for more than 70% of global deaths) and the healthcare needs of an aging population. The project capitalises on the growth opportunities in the global healthcare market, which is expected to reach US$25.3 trillion (AED93 trillion) by 2045.
His Excellency Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of Health Authority - Abu Dhabi, said: “The opening of HELM Abu Dhabi marks a bold step forward in the way healthcare is delivered globally. We are investing in more than just infrastructure, we are investing in human potential, breakthroughs that redefine longevity, and solutions that break down borders. This is a marriage of innovation and impact.”
Abu Dhabi is shaping the future of healthcare at speed and scale by leveraging a pro-innovation regulatory framework that helps companies bring breakthrough technologies to market faster. Through its AI-enabled healthcare system and its leadership in precision medicine, Abu Dhabi has created an environment for innovation to flourish across the value chain.
