Ardena expands US presence and signs agreement to acquire state-of-the-art drug manufacturing facility from Catalent
16 October 2024
Ardena, a pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) with GMP sites in Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands and Sweden, today announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire an Advanced Drug Product Manufacturing facility from Catalent in Somerset, New Jersey. The acquisition will significantly enhance Ardena's capabilities in late-stage and small-scale commercial oral drug manufacturing, advancing the company's strategy to become a global CDMO offering integrated solutions for the entire pharmaceutical development cycle.
The FDA-approved Somerset site employs approximately 200 qualified scientists and subject matter experts and is a center of excellence for high-efficiency oral dosage form manufacturing to complement Ardena's existing expertise in oral formulations. At the same time, the acquisition positions Ardena to expand its bioanalytical services in the US and serve a growing customer base driven by the ever-increasing demand for advanced drug development services. The site's advanced manufacturing technologies and analytical capabilities reinforce Ardena's integrated approach to providing comprehensive solutions to pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers on both sides of the Atlantic.
"Today marks an important milestone in Ardena's international growth strategy," said Jeremie Trochu, Chief Executive Officer of Ardena. "We are delighted to welcome the talented scientific and operational team in Somerset to the Ardena family. This team's commitment to exceptional service aligns perfectly with our core values: excellence, reliability, care and integrity. Together, we will continue to support biopharmaceutical companies that are at the forefront of innovation to bring life-changing therapies to patients worldwide."
"This expansion into North America is critical for Ardena as we look to continue to expand our global presence," said Trochu. "By adding advanced technologies such as hot melt extrusion, we are not only expanding our solutions to improve bioavailability, but also our expertise in developing innovative nanomedical drug delivery systems. This investment will allow us to expand our operations and broaden our offerings to better serve our rapidly growing international customer base."
GHO Capital, Ardena's private equity partner, was instrumental in realizing this acquisition to further accelerate Ardena's transatlantic expansion. The GHO Capital partners commented: "We are delighted that this significant acquisition has come to fruition. It will significantly strengthen Ardena's technological and market-relevant competencies in key regions and position the company for sustainable value creation and long-term success under Mr. Trochu's leadership."
The transaction is expected to close in early 2025, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
