BARDA and Tiba Biotech Collaborate on Innovative Therapeutics Targeting Influenza

12 July 2024

Tiba Biotech LLC, headquartered in Cambridge, has announced a new collaboration with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. They have secured a $749,999 contract through a competitive review process to develop advanced therapeutics for influenza. This partnership supports BARDA's Flexible and Strategic Therapeutics (FASTx) program, focusing on innovative therapeutic platforms like RNA-mediated interference (RNAi) to swiftly respond to emerging viral threats. Initially, Tiba Biotech will develop an RNAi-based therapeutic targeting the highly conserved viral nucleoprotein of H1N1 influenza using their RNABLTM platform.

Dr. Jasdave Chahal, co-founder and lead investigator, expressed enthusiasm about the BARDA award, noting its potential to revolutionize RNA therapeutics. This initiative extends Tiba's efforts in pandemic influenza preparedness, including their NIH-funded multi-antigen mRNA-based H7N9 flu vaccine and collaborations with the Collaborative Influenza Vaccine Innovation Centers (CIVICs).

Additionally, Tiba Biotech has been selected for BLUE KNIGHT ™, a collaboration between Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JLABS and BARDA aimed at leveraging innovation against future health threats.
