Metaphore Biotechnologies, in conjunction with Flagship Pioneering, has announced a significant research collaboration with Novo Nordisk aimed at developing innovative therapeutics for managing obesity. This partnership falls under the broader strategic alliance between Novo Nordisk and Flagship Pioneering, with a focus on creating new treatment methods for cardiometabolic and rare diseases. Spearheaded by Pioneering Medicines, Flagship's unit for drug development and partnerships, alongside Novo Nordisk's Bio Innovation Hub, dedicated to accelerating therapeutic development through collaborative efforts.

Metaphore will collaborate with Pioneering Medicines and Novo Nordisk to progress the programs from foundational research to preclinical development. Subsequently, Novo Nordisk may advance the programs into clinical trials.

Novo Nordisk Bio Innovation Hub, expressed optimism about the collaboration, highlighting the potential of Metaphore's machine learning approach in obesity management. The collaboration aims to harness Metaphore's platform, which mimics molecular interactions with remarkable precision, potentially leading to therapeutics requiring less frequent dosing.

Obesity remains a significant global health challenge, and there's a pressing need for innovative medicines. Metaphore's MIMIC platform offers a distinctive solution by focusing on pharmacophores, the crucial features where drugs interact with their targets. By isolating pharmacophores, designing molecular mimics, and optimizing therapeutic properties, the platform aims to create highly effective and long-lasting medicines.

The collaboration's objective is to design multitarget therapeutics that target the GLP-1 receptor and related biology. These agents are intended to be scalable, long-acting, and require infrequent dosing.

Metaphore, emphasized the importance of partnering with Novo Nordisk, a leader in obesity drug development. She sees this collaboration as a chance to showcase Metaphore's ability to enhance therapeutic molecules' efficacy, durability, and manufacturability.

Metaphore is the third Flagship-founded company to collaborate with Novo Nordisk under this strategic partnership. This underscores the value of the innovative partnership model in driving progress in biopharmaceuticals.

Under the agreement, Novo Nordisk may provide up to $600 million in upfront and milestone payments, as well as royalties on product sales. These payments will be shared between Metaphore and Pioneering Medicines. Additionally, Novo Nordisk will cover R&D expenses and participate in future financing rounds for Metaphore.
