BIOSENIC, a clinical-stage company specializing in severe autoimmune and inflammatory diseases and cell therapy, along with its subsidiary Medsenic SAS, has filed a continuation patent application US 18/763,376 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This application aims to protect the use of arsenic trioxide (ATO) for the prevention and treatment of sepsis syndrome (septic shock). The patent application seeks to cover Medsenic's ATO platform, which aims to prevent or mitigate the cytokine storm associated with systemic infections that share symptoms such as persistent hypotension, hyperthermia or hypothermia, leukocytosis or leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia. Similar protection efforts may lead to further divisional applications, including with the European Patent Office (EPO).

Medsenic SAS is investigating the therapeutic use of ATO in several clinical indications and is making progress in understanding how ATO modulates immune responses. The company is also exploring the potential of certain metal ions to enhance this therapeutic effect. The growing intellectual property portfolio is part of a strategy to establish robust protection around its flagship product, ATO, which will facilitate clinical and commercial development.

The new US patent application focuses on two main areas: immune and autoimmune diseases, including BioSenic’s flagship project for the treatment of chronic GvHD, and later systemic sclerosis and systemic lupus erythematosus; and oncology, where ATO has already shown exceptional results, including complete remissions in acute promyelocytic leukemia. This expanding patent family will support Medsenic/BioSenic’s plans for international clinical trials in conditions with unmet medical needs, with the long-term goal of obtaining market access approvals for its various formulations.
