15 May 2024
Petros Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a company focused on improving access to medication through over-the-counter drug development programs, has announced that all strengths of its prescription erectile dysfunction medication, STENDRA (avanafil), are now accessible on the telehealth platform Lemonaid Health, Inc. Lemonaid Health, a subsidiary of 23andMe Holding Co. (Nasdaq: ME) and a prominent telemedicine provider.
Fady Boctor, Petros Pharmaceuticals' President and Chief Commercial Officer, expressed excitement about collaborating with Lemonaid Health to expand STENDRA access. This collaboration aims to raise brand awareness and provide broader access to the therapy, aligning with Petros Pharmaceuticals' mission.
Lemonaid Health serves patients across the United States and has treated a significant number of ED patients, offering a discreet and legal solution for millions of men suffering from this undertreated condition.
STENDRA® (avanafil) is an oral phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used for treating erectile dysfunction. It should not be used in women or children, and its safety and effectiveness in these populations are not established. STENDRA can be taken in 100-mg or 200-mg tablets approximately 15 minutes before sexual activity. It should not be taken more than once a day. Patients should avoid excessive alcohol consumption, which may increase the risk of side effects. In clinical trials, a small percentage of participants discontinued STENDRA due to side effects, which were comparable to those in the placebo group.
STENDRA should not be used with organic nitrates, in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components, or in those using guanylate cyclase stimulators. Patients with cardiovascular issues or other conditions that render sexual activity inadvisable should refrain from using STENDRA. Prior to taking STENDRA, patients should inform their doctors of any heart conditions.
Concurrent use of STENDRA with alpha-blockers, other antihypertensives, or large amounts of alcohol may lead to hypotension. Patients should seek immediate medical attention if an erection persists for more than 4 hours or if sudden vision loss occurs. Additionally, patients should discontinue STENDRA and seek prompt medical attention if sudden hearing loss occurs.
STENDRA can potentiate the hypotensive effects of nitrates, alpha-blockers, antihypertensives, and alcohol. Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors can increase STENDRA exposure, so concomitant use is not recommended.
Combining STENDRA with other PDE5 inhibitors or erectile dysfunction therapies is not advised. Its safety profile in patients with bleeding disorders or active peptic ulcers is unknown. STENDRA does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, so patients should be counseled on protective measures.
The most common adverse reactions associated with STENDRA use include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, nasopharyngitis, and back pain.
