Ion-Armor™

A chemically strengthened glass for use in transparent armor laminates. Exhibiting a rupture modulus of nearly 1 GPa (~144,000 psi), Ion-Armor™ offers superior performance over typical soda-lime silicate glass.

Details

Ion-Armor™ is designed to reduce the areal density, i.e. weight per square foot of the exposed surface down to as little as 18 Lbs (usual market is 30-60 Lbs) while providing ballistic protection against high velocity rounds such as 7.62mm x 63 mm bullet ("7.62 round").

The compression layer is 600 microns (0.024 inch) to as much as 1 mm (0.040 inch) deep and the magnitude of surface compressions is 600 MPa (86,000 psi) to as high as 1 GPa (~144,000 psi).
