Introduction:

AstraZeneca India Private Limited (AZIPL), the Global Capability Centre (GCC) of AstraZeneca, has announced an investment of 250 crore rupees ($30 million) to expand its Global Innovation and Technology Centre (GITC) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Features:

This investment represents a significant milestone in AstraZeneca's growth in India as the company celebrates its 45th year in the country this month. The expanded GITC aims to create highly skilled roles by 2025, advancing AstraZeneca's vision of utilizing technologies such as enterprise platforms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and supply chain analytics to improve healthcare outcomes.

The GITC in Chennai has transitioned from offering traditional IT services to becoming a key driver of AstraZeneca’s digital transformation. It enhances productivity, simplifies processes, delivers technology, and fosters innovation across the company's global operations, supporting the delivery of life-changing medicines to patients worldwide. Currently occupying 334,000 square feet at Ramanujan IT City, the facility plans to add approximately 180,000 square feet over the next six months to accommodate this expansion, making it AstraZeneca’s largest global capability centre.
