Introduction:

GSK plc has announced its largest U.S. manufacturing investment to date, up to $800 million, to enhance its Marietta, Pennsylvania site with advanced drug substance and drug product manufacturing capabilities.

Features:

The new facility will produce sterile liquid vaccines and medicines to meet growing demand and feature an R&D pilot plant for clinical trial medicines. GSK will also establish a vaccines drug substance facility for products based on its MAPS technology, subject to future regulatory approvals.

The Marietta drug product building will be LEED Silver certified, incorporating solar panels, electric heat generation, and water and energy reclamation. Both facilities will include smart utility systems, robotics for material handling, and AI-driven predictive maintenance.

Construction is expected to start by the end of this year, with the drug substance facility operational by 2027 and the drug product facility by 2028. The project will create over 200 new jobs.
