Introduction:
Eli Lilly and Company has announced a significant $3 billion investment to expand its manufacturing facility in Kenosha County, Wisconsin.
Features:
This investment will create 750 highly skilled jobs, adding to the current workforce of over 100 employees. Since 2020, Lilly has committed more than $23 billion to building, expanding, and acquiring manufacturing facilities worldwide. With this latest commitment, Lilly’s planned investments in Wisconsin now total $4 billion, including the facility expansion, land acquisitions, and adjacent warehouse purchases.
The expanded Kenosha County facility will focus on manufacturing injectable medicines, as well as device assembly and packaging for products across multiple therapeutic areas. The site will incorporate advanced automation technologies such as guided vehicles, robotics, and state-of-the-art production equipment. Digital automation will be integrated throughout the facility, streamlining operations, improving data management, and ensuring precision, allowing employees to concentrate on delivering safe, high-quality medicines.
Construction on the expansion is set to begin in 2024, with production anticipated to commence by late 2025. This project represents another significant milestone in Lilly’s ongoing efforts to expand its manufacturing capabilities to serve more patients relying on its medicines globally. This facility, acquired earlier this year, will play a critical role in enhancing Lilly’s global parenteral (injectable) product manufacturing network. The expansion is designed to meet the increasing demand for Lilly’s diabetes and obesity treatments, as well as pipeline medicines across various therapeutic areas.
