Introduction:
Novo Nordisk has unveiled plans to invest $4.1 billion (approximately 27 billion Danish kroner) in establishing a new fill and finishing manufacturing facility in Clayton, North Carolina.
Features:
This investment represents one of the largest in Novo Nordisk’s history. The new facility will add 1.4 million square feet of production space dedicated to aseptic manufacturing and finishing processes, effectively doubling the total square footage of the company's three existing North Carolina sites. Additionally, the expansion will create 1,000 new jobs, joining the nearly 2,500 employees already based in the region, which is a key hub for innovation and biotechnology in the United States.
“It took us a century to reach 40 million patients, but with this expansion and ongoing global production investments, we’re enhancing Novo Nordisk’s capacity to support millions more individuals with serious chronic conditions in the future.”
Initial clearing and foundational work for the 56-acre site are already in progress. The facility's construction is expected to be completed gradually between 2027 and 2029, with approximately 2,000 external contractors involved at peak construction periods.
