Engitix and GSK Partner to Identify New Targets for Liver Fibrosis Regression
9 June 2026
Engitix has entered into a strategic research collaboration and option agreement with GSK to identify and validate novel therapeutic targets aimed at promoting liver fibrosis regression.
The partnership combines Engitix’s proprietary extracellular matrix (ECM) platform and multi-omics datasets with GSK’s drug development expertise. The collaboration will focus on understanding the biological mechanisms involved in reversing liver fibrosis, an area that remains largely unexplored in fibrosis drug discovery.
Under the agreement, Engitix may receive up to £44.5 million in upfront and near-term payments. The company is also eligible for up to £118 million per target in development and commercial milestones, along with tiered low-single-digit royalties on future product sales.
As part of the collaboration, Engitix will develop human ECM-based disease models and generate high-resolution translational multi-omics data to identify targets linked to fibrosis resolution in liver disease. GSK will have the option to license the resulting assays, datasets and targets, and will be responsible for any subsequent research, development and commercialisation activities.
The agreement highlights growing interest in developing therapies that not only slow the progression of liver fibrosis but also support the reversal of established disease.
