Johnson & Johnson Invests Over $1 Billion to Expand Vision Manufacturing Operations in Florida

16 June 2026

Johnson & Johnson has announced an investment of more than $1 billion to expand its vision care operations in Jacksonville, Florida, strengthening its manufacturing, packaging and distribution capabilities in the United States.

The investment includes the construction of a new distribution facility and the introduction of advanced manufacturing and packaging technologies to increase production capacity for the company’s ACUVUE contact lenses. The expansion is intended to support growing demand for vision care products and enhance the resilience of the company’s domestic supply chain.

The project forms part of Johnson & Johnson’s previously announced $55 billion investment programme across the United States, covering manufacturing, research and development, and technology through early 2029. Construction of the new facility is already underway, with operations expected to begin in 2028.

The expansion is expected to support the company’s existing workforce in Jacksonville, where around 3,500 employees are based, while contributing to continued economic growth in the region. Johnson & Johnson currently generates an estimated $6 billion annual economic impact in Florida.

Johnson & Johnson has operated in Jacksonville since 1981 and has played a significant role in the development of eye health technologies. The company currently produces more than 1.7 billion ACUVUE contact lenses each year for patients in the United States.

The Jacksonville site includes more than 1.5 million square feet of manufacturing, research, distribution and operational facilities. The latest investment is expected to further strengthen the region’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing and healthcare innovation.

The company stated that the expansion will help increase domestic production capacity, improve supply chain reliability and support the delivery of innovative eye care solutions to patients in the United States and worldwide.
