Petros Pharmaceuticals Forms Partnership with Provider of Over-the-Counter Switch Technology for Crestor's (rosuvastatin) Blockbuster Cholesterol Medication

13 December 2023

Petros Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTPI) has disclosed a strategic partnership with Idea Evolver (IE), a technology platform specializing in Rx-to-OTC switches and digital pharmaceutical launch solutions. This collaboration aims to create an application crucial for facilitating the prescription-to-over-the-counter (OTC) switch for Petros' erectile dysfunction drug, STENDRA® (avanafil), utilizing IE's proprietary Rx-to-OTC platform, CodeScripts.

Fady Boctor, President and Chief Commercial Officer of Petros, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in addressing the technological aspects essential for the Rx-to-OTC transition of STENDRA. Boctor emphasized the need to ensure that the appropriate patients have safe access to the OTC product, contingent upon FDA approval. He also mentioned the potential integration of an AI/machine learning component, developed in response to FDA feedback, to provide an automated screening mechanism and enhance the self-selection process.

Petros is optimistic about working with Idea Evolver, recognizing them as the only technology provider with documented experience in successfully advancing a currently available drug through an Actual Use Trial, a critical step toward potential OTC approval. Boctor expressed anticipation for the continued development of the tool and future collaborations with other potential partners and the FDA, aiming to refine the process for STENDRA.

Idea Evolver, known for its work with various large healthcare organizations, participated in a notable technology-enabled prescription-to-OTC switch clinical study published in JACC (Journal of the American College of Cardiology). This study, also referred to as an Actual Use Trial, focused on rosuvastatin (Crestor) and was included in an FDA application for OTC approval. Petros intends to base the development of its technology on provided branding, consumer research, and behavior analysis. The collaboration with Idea Evolver will specifically emphasize incorporating their expertise in human factors and usability engineering into the application's design, along with the development of artificial intelligence components.
