PCI Pharma Services (PCI), a leading global contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), today announced the opening of its Clinical Services Center of Excellence in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. This is the first facility of its kind to serve the growing needs of global biologics manufacturers in the New England region. The new facility offers greater flexibility and scalability for secondary packaging, distribution and cold chain storage of innovative therapies in development.

To keep pace with growth in biologics and gene therapies that require cold chain infrastructure including deep freezing, the new facility has capacity for one -20 ° C freezer , 35 ultra-low freezers at -80 ° C and 12 liquid nitrogen freezers. The center of excellence also has a temperature-controlled room with a 5,000 square meter cold room at 2 ° to 8 ° C, which has five levels of storage racks. A 1,000 square meter cold secondary packaging room will be converted into a primary packaging room with the planned construction of an additional secondary packaging unit.

PCI currently occupies 50,000 square meters of the new 100,000 square meter building - the remaining space is available for rent. The campus was built with ESG (Environmental Social Governance) and sustainability goals in mind. These include a complex stormwater drainage system with a series of basins that filter the water before it leaves the site, an underground oil and sedimentation separation tank, electric vehicle charging stations and the exclusive use of LED lighting throughout the building.

The opening of the New England Center of Excellence is the latest in a series of PCI expansions around the globe, with six locations on three continents, including Bedford in New Hampshire, Berlin in Germany, San Diego in California, Rockford in Illinois and Melbourne in Australia. In February 2022, PCI's San Diego and Melbourne sites were expanded to include innovative facilities with aseptic fill and finish capabilities to enhance PCI's global offering and provide much-needed capacity for early clinical-stage customers.
