The demand for pipette tips has literally exploded due to the corona pandemic, and the demand to manufacture them as efficiently as possible. As a specialist for high-end automation, MA micro automation has taken the challenge to come up with its own modular solution for up to 64 cavities. The special feature: A wide range of test tasks are integrated into the CENTAURI IVD process and the image processing know-how required for this is in-house. As the only supplier in Europe, MA micro automation manufactures its own high-speed linear axis and relies on linear motor technology for component removal and the transport system.

Pipette tips are on the one hand mass-produced items and on the other hand precision items, because they are used in laboratory diagnostics to take up precisely defined amounts of liquid and transfer them to test containers. The wall thicknesses and openings at the tip are only a few tenths of a millimeter each and any deviation can influence the diagnostic result. It is therefore important to pay attention to the formation of burrs or deformations during the production process and to reliably eject abnormal pipette tips.

In order to avoid downtimes of the injection molding machine in 24/7 operation, MA micro automation has integrated a buffer memory with a capacity of ten minutes between the machine and subsequent processes at the customer's request. If there is a delay in the automation, for example because you forgot to refill labels or filters, the injection molding machine can continue production without any problems. Due to the faster cycle time of the automation compared to the injection molding machine, the buffer storage empties itself again afterwards.
