AboutChanelle Pharma

From Humble Beginings ….

Chanelle Pharma started with humble beginnings in 1985 with just 2 members of staff when the company’s founder and MD, Michael Burke, a Veterinary Surgeon, recognised the need for a professional, rapid and competitive international veterinary distribution service. Since its inception, the company has grown organically through a number of strategic business shifts to become a leading provider of human and animal health generic pharmaceuticals worldwide.

Today, Chanelle Pharma is at the forefront of the industry, ranking amongst the best companies in the veterinary and human pharmaceuticals sector. In Ireland, it is the largest indigenous manufacturer of both human and veterinary generic pharmaceuticals.

Chanelle Pharma holds over 5000 human and veterinary pharmaceutical licences in Europe, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Japan. In the EU, it holds the largest number of veterinary licences of any animal health company.

Headquartered in Loughrea, Co Galway, Ireland, Chanelle Pharma has a presence in over 90 countries and supplies 10 of the top 12 multinationals in the world with both human and veterinary pharmaceutical products.

Chanelle Pharma has a proven track record of innovation and makes a significant investment in R&D annually.

In 2018, the company announced an €85 million investment, the single largest investment by any Irish owned company, to double manufacturing capacity, launch 96 new products and grow its workforce to 850 people over a period of 5 years. As part of the investment, Chanelle opened a purpose built €10 million manufacturing facility in 2018 to facilitate the company’s expansion plans in to the US market. The facility received FDA approval in September 2019 and the company launched its first product to the US market in April 2020.

In 2018 Chanelle Pharma won Pharma Company of the Year and Industry Company of Year, the first indigenous Irish company to win the award.
