About Diabetes and Endocrinology 2020

Diabetes is a disease in which the level of blood sugar or blood glucose are too high. It involves problems with the hormone insulin. The pancreas releases insulin, which helps glucose to get into the cells to give them energy. Glucose comes from the food which we eat. Diabetes occurs when the pancreas produces insulin in small amount or no insulin or our body can’t use insulin appropriately and which causes to build up sugar in the blood. It can cause serious health issues, including blindness, heart diseases, kidney failures, and many more diseases. Diabetes is increasing day by day. High levels of glucose results into the damage of the body and failure of various tissues and organs. Symptoms of Diabetes are frequent urination, excessive thirst, a sudden change in vision, dry skin, more infections than usual, tiredness, hunger, weight loss, vomiting, Nausea or stomach pain, etc. There are three main types of Diabetes- Type 1 (can develop at any age, but mostly occurs in children and adolescents), Type 2 (It mainly occurs in adults), GDM (Gestational Diabetes occurs when there is high blood glucose during pregnancy and is associated with complications to both child and mother.

Endocrinology is a branch of medicine and physiology which involves the study of hormones and treatment of hormone-based diseases. The endocrine system consists of various glands in different parts of the body, which produces chemicals called hormones. These hormones directly secret into the bloodstream. The vital endocrine glands are pancreas, parathyroid, thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, and gonads. From these glands, hormone regulates metabolism, blood pressure, growth, reproduction, and many other vital functions. The endocrine glands are also termed as ductless glands. Where there is an imbalance of hormones, different diseases can occur, and endocrinologist deals with these types of problems. An endocrinologist can diagnose and treat hormone-based problems.
