Coating Place developed its design of their modern fluid bed microencapsulation Wurster coating unit using Dr. Dale Wurster’s intellectual property and prototype equipment they purchased in 1976. Since that time, the team at Coating Place has advanced the design of their Wurster coating unit by developing proprietary fluidization plates and nozzles that set our facility apart. This technology, along with the feasibility and product development services, enable Coating Place to provide customers with the highest quality services available in the Wurster fluid bed coating industry. Coating material is sprayed concurrent to the flow of the process air using our proprietary nozzles while customized plates allow for linear scalability from research units to production units without costly testing needed. Coating Place is the only company with linear scalability recognized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

With twenty highly advanced Wurster units between two facility locations, Coating Place is capable of handling any size project from 0.010 Kg to 800 Kg. Our proprietary linearly scalable Wurster fluidization plates come in a variety of sizes, allowing a product to move from research to production with minimal effort. Our Model 400 research unit can be fitted with a 2”, 4” or 6” plate, while our Model 900 research unit can handle 6”, 9” and 12” plates. Our Model 600 research unit is the most flexible with a range from the 2” through the 9” plates. This allows our Formulations department to create batches from 0.01 Kg through 60 Kg ensuring an option for any client’s project development needs.
