Scrubber Technology

A scrubber is a piece of air pollution control equipment that removes harmful gases and particles from industrial exhaust streams. A scrubber is a versatile system and can be designed for both particulate as well as gaseous pollution abatement, and is able to handle high volumes, fluctuation in pressure and process flows. Typically, a scrubber is installed before the RTO system, and is often paired with a quench system to decrease the process temperatures and further neutralize the process flows.

There are a few different options and types when selecting the appropriate scrubber system. The most used is a wet scrubber. These systems funnel the exhaust stream through the bottom of a packed tower and sprayed with solution counter-current to the exhaust stream flow. A Venturi Scrubber is a type of wet scrubber that uses venturi technology to remove contaminated particles from gaseous exhaust streams. Dry scrubbers operate by carefully combining chemical agents, selected specifically for treating the exhaust stream elements, at incredibly high speeds, that react with or absorb the compounds in the stream. An ammonia scrubber is another type of specialized scrubber that funnels ammonia laden exhaust stream through the bottom of a packed tower, which sprays a solution from specialized nozzles.

It is critical when selecting the type of scrubber technology and appropriate neutralizing agents, that an experienced team of pollution control engineers carefully analyzes the process stream particulates and contaminates.
