The FARMOVS in-house pharmacy is registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as an Institutional Pharmacy, i.e., it functions as a hospital pharmacy. The SAPC rated our Pharmacy as an A-Grade facility in 2021. The pharmacy personnel comprise of two pharmacists and two pharmacist assistants, who are also registered with the SAPC.
The pharmacy premises allow for limited and restricted access to pharmacy personnel only. Areas where study medication is stored and/or prepared are under constant temperature control by means of an automated computerised system, i.e., REES Scientific. Temperature is monitored either at room temperature (15–25 °C), refrigerated (2–8 °C) or freezing (-20 °C) conditions, depending on the storage conditions of the study medication. The pharmacy performs basic dispensing and compounding activities, guided by study-specific requirements. The pharmacy has a Class II bio-safety cabinet for aseptic preparation of study medication, and monochromatic lights for light sensitive medication.
Our On-Site Depot Service:
The FARMOVS pharmacy has a depot service, which entails the storage, distribution, and destruction of study medication for multi-centre late phase studies in South Africa.
