Pharmacological properties
When administered parenterally , it has an anticonvulsant, antiarrhythmic, vasodilating effect (on the arteries), a calming effect on the central nervous system (depending on the dose - sedative, hypnotic or narcotic), in high doses depressant (neuromuscular transmission), hypotensive (reduces blood pressure) , diuretic (increases diuresis) and suppresses the respiratory center
Pharmacokinetics
After parenteral administration, plasma protein binding is 25-30%. Penetrates into all organs and tissues, passes through the blood-brain and placental barriers. It is excreted mainly by the kidneys, as well as with feces, saliva and milk.
Indications for use
Convulsive syndrome in eclampsia and severe preeclampsia, uterine tetanus, urinary retention, lead colic, hypomagnesemia (including in patients receiving only parenteral nutrition), hypertensive crisis, status epilepticus, poisoning with mercury, arsenic, tetraethyl lead (as part of complex therapy. )
