VIRBAC believes that the implantation of a microchip is a veterinary procedure and should only be performed by a veterinarian or veterinary nurse.
Precautions :
After the implantation, an inflammatory reaction of the connective tissue is observed and leads to the formation of a capsule composed of fibrocytes and collagen fibres around the microchip. This fibrous capsule surrounding the implant prevents it from being rejected or from migrating. However, if migration does occur it is usually less than 2 cm and will not affect the scanning. Migration does not pose a threat to the animal.
The database:
The database is maintained by Backhome® and can be accessed 24 hours a day via the Internet, at www.backhome.co.za, offering the veterinary practice and pet owner direct access to the database. Those who do not have access to the Internet can dial (011) 027-8837 during office hours for assistance. Alternatively download and log onto the Virbac Backhome® Africa app - available on App Store.
