Introduction:
AbbVie has announced the beginning of construction on a $70 million expansion at its AbbVie Bioresearch Center (ABC) in Worcester, Mass. The site serves as a centre of excellence for biologics research, development, and manufacturing. This work forms part of the company’s earlier commitment to invest more than $10 billion in the U.S. to support innovation and strengthen essential biologics manufacturing capacity.
Features:
The investment will broaden AbbVie’s domestic biologics manufacturing capabilities to meet rising global demand and support U.S. production of current and next-generation oncology and immunology medicines. The project includes new biologics manufacturing areas and a three-storey building with laboratory, warehouse, and office space. The expansion will also support the quicker transfer of select oncology products from Europe to the U.S.
This development strengthens AbbVie’s ability to produce advanced biologic medicines and helps ABC continue its strong record in developing and delivering complex treatments that improve the lives of millions of patients worldwide.
AbbVie currently has a presence in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, employing 28,000 people in the U.S., including more than 2,000 in Massachusetts. The ABC expansion will create new jobs and add more capabilities to AbbVie’s wider U.S. manufacturing network, which already supports over 6,000 American jobs across 11 manufacturing sites.
