Introduction:

BD is investing $110 million to expand the production of prefillable syringes at its site in Columbus, Nebraska. The investment aims to strengthen the U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain, support the reshoring of drug manufacturing, and address rising demand for biologics and GLP-1 therapies.

Features:

The BD Neopak Glass Prefillable Syringe platform is designed to address the complex and evolving requirements of biologics and combination product development. Available in 1 mL and 2.25 mL formats, the syringe platform supports a wide range of formulation needs, including high-viscosity drugs, drug-container compatibility, and integration with delivery devices.

The investment will also support additional line upgrades and capacity enhancements at the site, enabling the company to meet increasing global demand for advanced injectable solutions. In addition, the company is allocating $10 million to strengthen cannula manufacturing capabilities at the site. Together, these investments are expected to create around 120 new jobs.

The new funding follows a previous $35 million expansion of prefilled flush syringe manufacturing at the Columbus site, which added about 50 jobs.

The facility, which has been part of the company’s vertically integrated manufacturing network for more than 75 years, will increase its capacity to supply high-quality injectable solutions to meet rising global demand.

Production of the BD Neopak Glass Prefillable Syringe at the Columbus site is expected to begin in mid-2026.
