Disinfection Fogging

Fogging of disinfectant solutions is a useful tool in decontamination methods. In general, it is not a substitute for physical cleaning or gaseous disinfection methods, rather, a very useful, cost-effective method for solving specific pathogen contamination.

No matter how comprehensive the routine physical cleaning and disinfection regime is, it is extremely difficult to completely eliminate microbial cross contamination from hard-to-reach surfaces and air which may cause product/process spoilage, infection or safety issues. At times, micro-organisms can persist in facilities for years – despite regular routing, general cleaning.

In addition to physical cleaning methods, a facility can be fogged to provide whole room decontamination. This rapid method of disinfectant delivery also minimises the need to use ladders to disinfect elevated furniture and equipment.

Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) or Electrostatic (ES) foggers and can achieve high levels of airborne and surface decontamination - up to 6 log reductions in some cases; more commonly, 4 log reductions are achieved. Effective decontamination is possible for a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores. Careful selection of the appropriate disinfectant is essential; Chlorine Dioxide, Hydrogen Peroxide or F10TM* are commonly selected. Often, the chemical used is determined by regulators or governmental standards.

Biosafety is able to assist you in choosing if fogging is the right method for your site and guide you to the correct, approved chemical for your site, then have our approved staff conduct the disinfection process.
