Cannabinoids were originally identified in the Cannabis Sativa plant and include the well-known molecule cannabidiol or ‘CBD.’ Plant-derived CBD has been touted as a cure-all for a range of health ailments including pain, anxiety, insomnia, depression, and more. The missing piece? A wide body of reputable clinical evidence, so regulators can ensure it is safe and effective for use.

Botanix has an evidence-first approach. To support this, we have purposefully invested our energy in investigating and proving the merits of a safer, purer and more cost effective synthetic form of CBD which avoids the challenges of naturally extracted CBD. We are also developing novel synthetic cannabinoid derivatives with an intent to increase the potency, while retaining desirable safety properties of CBD.

Botanix’s synthetic cannabidiol is a highly purified form of the drug which lacks the impurities often found in material extracted from plants.  Synthetic cannabinoids are safer and more suitable for the production of prescription pharmaceutical products than plant-derived material. We are proud to have secured a supply agreement for synthetic CBD with Purisys, which will meet our requirements for existing and future commercial supplies and also are working to scale up production of our proprietary synthetic cannabinoid molecules for clinical testing.
