FORM : film-coated tablets
DOSAGE : tablet dosed 250mg and 500mg
PRESENTATION : box of 10 tablets
DIRECTIONS :
- They arise from the antibacterial activity and the pharmacokinetic characteristics of azithromycin. They take into account both the clinical studies to which this drug has given rise and its place in the range of antibacterial products currently available.
- They are limited to infections due to germs defined as sensitive:
- Angina documented beta-hemolytic streptococcus A, as an alternative to treatment with beta-lactams, particularly when the latter cannot be used.
- Superinfections of acute bronchitis,
- exacerbations of chronic bronchitis,
- Stomatological infections.
- Official recommendations for the appropriate use of antibacterials should be considered.
DOSAGE:
Adult
Angina, stomatological infections: 500 mg per day for 3 days.
This dosage, with a short duration of administration of 3 days, is explained by the particular pharmacokinetic properties of azithromycin and the maintenance of activity, in these indications, several days after the last intake.
Superinfections of acute bronchitis, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis: 500 mg the first day then 250 mg the following 4 days. The duration of treatment will be 5 days.
No dose modification in the elderly.
Elderly: the recommended posology is the same as for adult patients. As elderly patients may present with pro-arrhythmogenic conditions, caution is particularly recommended due to the risk of occurrence of cardiac arrhythmia and torsade de pointes.
Same dosage in patients with moderate to moderate hepatic impairment.
