Kemarel

Food for special medical purposes containing essential amino acids and their keto analogues.

Kemarel is a food for special medical purposes and is intended for a dietary procedure in kidney disorders. It contains the essential amino acids lysine, threonine, tryptophan, histidine and tyrosine and the keto analogues of the amino acids isoleucine, leucine,
phenylalanine, valine and the hydroxy analogue of methionine. Thanks to this, it enables the intake of essential amino acids while minimizing the intake of amino nitrogen.

Description of properties and characteristics

After ingestion, keto analogs of amino acids are transaminated with an amino group taken from non-essential amino acids, thereby reducing urea formation by recycling the amino groups. Levels of accumulated urinary metabolites decrease. Keto- and/or hydroxy analogues do not induce hyperfiltration of residual nephrons. Preparations containing ketoanalogues of amino acids have a positive effect on renal hyperphosphatemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism and can improve renal osteodystrophy. Taking Kemarel together with a diet very low in protein makes it possible to reduce nitrogen intake and avoid the harmful consequences of inadequate protein intake and malnutrition.

Kemarel is used to limit damage caused by faulty or insufficient protein metabolism in chronic renal insufficiency while simultaneously limiting dietary protein intake to 40 g/day or less (in adults). It is usually required in patients with a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of less than 25 ml/min.

Dosage and method of use

Adults 4-8 tablets three times a day during meals. The tablets are given as long as the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is lower than 25 ml/min and at the same time the protein intake is limited to 40 g/day (in adults).

Available packs: 100 or 300 tablets
