In-line soft-sensor labscale Bioreactor System for CHO cell Process Development

In-line soft-sensor labscale Bioreactor System for CHO cell Process Development

The BR1000 is a lab-scale bioreactor system that can accommodate 1L to 5L stir-tank vessels for mammalian cell culture.  Equipped with all the necessary and conventional sensors for environmental control, it also has integrated near infra-red (NIR) and dielectric impedence spectroscopy (capacitance) probes for in-line sensing.  These sensors provide the capability for real-time sensing of glucose and lactate by NIR and viable cell density (VCD) through capacitance measurements.  The Model Predictive Control (MPC) software control system interprets the in-line sensor inputs with a CHO-cell derived cell model bias to automate and control glucose feeding and concentration with remarkable precision.   One can also customize the control algorithm using software tools provided in as few as three control culture runs.  The BR1000 is perhaps the only fully-integrated, real-time soft sensor CHO cell culture system available today.  It is a bioreactor, soft-sensor, analytical instrument, controller, computer, and robotic device for dynamic optimization of glucose feeding to give optimal cell culture performance for expression of biopharmaceutical drugs.
