Pharma Still Multiple Effect

Pharma Still Multiple Effect

The water feeds the system through a pressurization unit, then it is preheated by an exchanger in which the heat source is the WFI itself. After this passage the water enters the tube side of the exchanger of the first column where it is heated by the heat source (industrial steam) on the shell side. The water passes through the last pre-heater reaching the required temperature in the first effect and the heated feed water evaporates at the bottom of the column. The operation of GDN's PSME is based on the “Thin Film” technology, a very important system from the point of view of efficiency.

The pure steam produced in the first effect is sent to the shell side of the exchanger of the second effect while the water enters the tube side of the exchanger of the second effect. In this way, the pure vapor releases the heat to the water which condenses and becomes WFI. At the same time part of the water inside the pipe side, thanks to this energy, evaporates and feeds the next effect: this process is repeated until the last effect. The WFI generated in all the previous effects is cooled by the first exchanger / heater and the remaining non-evaporated water inside the last effect, called “blow down”, is eliminated from the bottom of the column.

CONSTRUCTION FEATURES

GDN's PSME still series is the result of 40 years of experience and constant technological development in the construction of machines for pharmaceutical use.The machine is built entirely in AISI 316L stainless steel with pickled and passivated active surface, all internal welds are TIG (tungsten inert gas), the gaskets are in PTFE, the frame is in AISI 304 stainless steel and the control of the machine is carried out from an interface with SIEMENS PLC and SCADA.

An impact separation system has been implemented on these stills: by exploiting the centrifugal force, the drops of water are pushed towards the walls and are then forced to pass through a system of discs, thus falling downwards. The exchangers are much longer, in order to make the most of the advantages of thin film technology. An excellent degassing system has been studied on the first column. Our implants comply with the strictest rules of the pharmacopoeia and the guidelines of CGMP, GAMP and FDA.
